End of life care for people with dementia

People with dementia fare much better if they are kept out of hospital and looked after in the community, according to a new study commissioned by the Marie Curie Cancer Care ‘End of Life Care for People with Dementia’. But, says its principal author Karen Harrison Dening, there is still much room for improvement.

The objectives of the project were to:

  • Identify the major barriers for dementia patients and their carers in accessing good quality end of life care
  • Suggest cost effective ways of enabling improvements based on review findings

You can download various project documentation from the Marie Curie Cancer Care website, including:

  • Project report (PDF 585KB)
  • Technical report (PDF 133KB)
  • Project toolkit (MS Word 429KB) giving details of the methodology and resources used by the study team is available on the website so that the data collection and analysis approach can be replicated in other locations if desired
  • Presentation (MS PowerPoint 4MB)
