Over the past year we have created a number of tools to support improved care for people living with dementia in care homes, including:
- Dementia Quality Mark operating framework and supporting materials
- Person centred support plan
- Dementia awareness leaflets for care home managers and staff
- A review of the impact of dementia in learning disability care homes
Priorities from January 2011 to March 2012 include:
- Supporting councils in BANES, Wiltshire, Plymouth, Bristol and Dorset to pilot the use of the ‘Dementia Quality Mark’ for care homes. Implementation will be evaluated and learning disseminated.
- Supporting one care home group with a bid to the Design Council’s “Public Service by Design” programme.
- The South West Strategic Health Authority’s mental health pathway – workforce development e-platform will addressing the training needs of care home staff.
